I was pondering the following question:
If atheists say logic is real, why can't they prove it to be true? asked by a friend.
Logic and truth are synonymous. Therefore your premise is flawed to the point of well ...
When Jesus says I am the way the truth and the life/light He is saying I am the way, the logic and the light/life. Jesus is the Word of God made flesh i.e. a combination of the logos or mind or logic of God and the debhar or breath of God both are contained in the concept of Word of God. Holy scripture is the revealed word of God and thus is also the logic and breath of God.
So, it looks like you premise here is that logical and reason, and God are mutually exclusive. What kind of God would create an ordered or logical universe and then not be logical Himself. Actually, your premise argues against your conclusion. There is nothing incompatible between logic and God. Except in the sense of the Evangelicals or Fundamentalists or "fundies" whether they be "Christian" or Islamic. Here with them logic must be suspended for them to achieve there goals, which is the imposition of a socio-political point of view a new world order in which logic is suspended or made to seem evil, and thus science etc. and other gifts of God can be ridiculed and things like logic and reason can also. And then of course scripture is bent, miss quoted, misunderstood to support this socio-political point of view which includes an anti-intellectual attitude. of course the heresy of sola scriptura allows or even promotes this tendency or movement -- evangelical or fundamentalism what have you. And can be seen as a logical outgrowth of Luther's "original heresy or sin" if you will. Without sola scriptura the scripture could not be bent in such away as to support the fundamental socio-political point of view that is foundational to fundamentalism and thus be used to disprove logic; this in itself is a logical absurdity. This is equally absurd to the true Christian and the so-called atheist.
To the Catholic (there is no such thing as a non-catholic Christian). The true Christian -- the Catholic does not argue against logic, because that would be arguing against God the creator of it all. We cannot deny truth in any form or we would be denying Christ himself or thus make Him a liar since he did say I am the way the TRUTH and the light/life.
The Church has made it's mistakes, and rectified them denying Galileo and censoring him and Copernicus as well; and the Church has paid the price apologized and corrected itself, we cannot deny the truth that the world is round and that it orbits the sun, and that the earth is not the center of the universe, nor ca we deny the truth of evolution, the evidence of which is readily apparent with anyone who has eyes to see and ears to hear -- hybrid plants and animals, cloning these things are the truth and could not be true that is they are proofs of evolution. Now evolution by natural selection the second hypotheses put forth by Darwin is not accepted by the church or the completely by the scientific community. There are competing hypotheses the main being evolution by accident aka punctuated equilibrium, put forth by the late Dr. Stephen Jay Gould and others.
Atheists, worship the God of reason so therefore there are no real atheists. The trouble is the worship the god of human reason as if humanity were the way the truth and the light/life. Clearly this is a flawed conclusion. If it were correct then not only would the universe be ordered, but we humans would completely understand it, and what is more we would be able to prove that we were the ones who ordered it. so, therefore atheism itself can be disproved and the existence of God can be proved by very simple logic. The universe is ordered, we did not order it, in fact we don't even understand it all. It is quite possible that we may not have the ability even with the scientific method, brought tto you by Catholics btw, to completely understand this ordered universe.
Now the fact that the universe is ordered ie understandable by degree by the human mind coupled with the dual realities that we can not understand it completely and thus did not order it ourselves, proves that there is a creator -- the one who did order it.
Now, since we take pleasure in uncovering gradually via science the truths the order of the universe from quantum physics to geology, and biology, means that not only is there a God but that he is loving in that he gave us not only the ability to understand his ordered, but the sense of pleasure in doing it.
Heck we don't even understand to any significant degree our own brains, although we have uncovered much in human terms, we are no where near a complete understanding. We don't even know all the neurotransmitters that exist in the brain, nor their quantities. We take pretty pictures with our scanners etc. and deduce lobes and believe we perceive their functions, but these are at an extremely gross and primitive level. In fact brain chemistry it self is as unique as finger prints, and their could very well be neurotransmitters that are unique to an individual.
The bottom line here is that we don't even understand even 10% of this organ that the atheists have made into their God.
For atheists it's as if Descartes said, " I think therefore I am ... God". A completely illogical notion.
In fact the debate between fundies and atheists should rightly center on which group is the more deluded (illogical).
